Blindsight
Absolutely loved this book and its question of consciousness versus intelligence. Plus, space vampires.
Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion
Awesome world building, and I loved the Canterbury Tales-like structure of the first one. I am still looking for books to scratch my Hyperion itch.
The Left Hand of Darkness
By far my favorite Le Guin novel. A cool planet, pun intended, with a political structure and social commentary built around a world where gender does not exist.
Dune Series
The books that started my SF hyperfixation. I cannot say much about Dune that has not already been said, except that I highly suggest reading the first three books back to back to get a more complete story. Also, do not listen to the haters: the later books are still really good.
The Stand
This book is amazing, and is more similar to something like The Lord of the Rings than a horror novel. Best world building, best villain, best characters, especially Tom Cullen.
Gone to See the River Man
Amazing horror novel. Truly terrifying and disturbing, with a folk aesthetic I have been searching for in more novels. I want to read the sequel, which I hear is also very good.
